Toronto After Dark Film Festival: Alien vs Ninja
September 17, 2010 / 64555
When a group of ninjas encounter an alien invasion force, incredible fight scenes ensue in this total crowd-pleaser from Japan!
The Buzz
“a rollicking, bloody good time (with) a consistent string of physical gags, impressive stunts and exaggerated gore that keep upping the ante” - Fangoria
“There’s barely anything but violent ninjas and even more violent aliens in this film. And that’s fantastic….This film is a big bucket of fun, people. Don’t miss it” - Twitch Film
“The title of this Japanese film pretty much says all you need to know, but the movie’s keen awareness of its own cheesiness adds to the rubber-suited fun” - Toronto Star, Advance Review
“Delightfully insane….generates a fluid one-two punch of action and satire…proffering creative new ways to behead, flay, disembowel and dissect…and Chiba hasn’t run out of surprises by the end” - Eye Weekly, Advance Review
Official Selection - Fantasia Film Festival, Montreal
Synopsis
In a land besieged by an intense feud between fashionable ninja clans, a meteor crashes into a forest, and unleashes a brood of xenomorphic aliens that begin to ravage the countryside. After a cursory introduction to our ninja heroes, this film wastes no time fulfilling its titular promise. The moment the entrails start to hit the fan, writer/director Seiji Chiba (DEATH TRANCE) removes the brakes, ties a brick to the accelerator and lets some delirious man-in-suit aliens start throwing down on some bad-ass ninja warriors! There are swordfights, fist-fights, tail-fights (!), gun-fights (!!), horny-alien-fights (!!!). There are fights that send combatants into the utter stratosphere. And never mind the kitchen-sink, this film even throws freakin’ ZOMBIES into the mix! All impeccably choreographed by Yuji Shimomura (the legendary action director behind VERSUS and Toronto After Dark 2006 hit SHINOBI), AVN strikes a sublime balance between balletic swordplay and side-splitting slapstick. And I when I write “side-splitting”, I really mean it literally! Read more …
Halloween Event: The Retro Zombie Ball 2009-2010
October 11, 2009 / 4281
This event has been postponed until 2010 and refunds have been issued.
The dead have arisen in Salem, the Halloween capital of the world! Up from the depths of Salem Harbor, unmarked barrels of toxic waste have floated to the shore, contaminating the entire Wharf, resulting in a horde of carnivorous zombies eager to dine on unwary tourists. Salem’s waterfront has become a desolate wasteland of lumbering corpses clutching at what few visitors still dare to tread close to the water’s edge.
These mouldering cadavers are hungry for flesh, and the only thing that can slow their insatiable desire to feast is the eternal power of music. In an attempt to contain the outbreak, renowned dj addambombb has drawn the Zombies to Finz on Salem’s Pickering Wharf for the Retro Zombie Ball. His weapons include the pulsing beats of 80’s pop, punk, new wave, and hair metal mixed with a bite of 70’s disco and an infestation of zombie and horror tunes through the ages. We scrape the rotting funk from these ageless classics to give them new life in an apocalyptic vision of doom: Read more …
Zombies: The Beginning 2007 (Zombi: La Creazione) - Poster, Synopsis, Photos, Trailer, Review
December 13, 2008 / 25600
Distribution rights for Bruno ‘Vincent Dawn’ Mattei’s Zombies: The Beginning (Zombi: la creazione) are to be offered for sale by FilmExport Group s.r.l. at this year’s Marché du Film in Cannes; as was reported here on Twitch back on April 12th, distribution rights for his Island of the Living Dead (L’isola dei morti viventi) and The Jail: A Women’s Hell (Anime perse) - a.k.a. “The Jail: l’inferno delle donne” - are also to be offered for sale there by FilmExport Group. Zombies: The Beginning is a sequel to Island of the Living Dead.
Here’s a synopsis for Zombies: The Beginning from FilmExport Group: “Sharon, the only survivor of the explosion of the salvage ship Dark Star, is having a hard time with the insurance company in furnishing them with a satisfactory explanation about her accident. She tells the story of her horrible experience, but is considered crazy - no one believes her when she tells about the existence of living dead on an island that can’t be found on any nautical map. ¶ About one year later… ¶ Barker, representative of an important pharmaceutical company, is the only one to believe Sharon, and as there is no news of a scientific crew sent six months earlier to capture some samples of those beings, he convinces her to join the rescue team and take part in the mission. Sharon and the rescue team arrive on the island armed and equipped like marines, and set forth to carry out their task. Read more …

Zombies Walk In New York (Video)
June 4, 2008 / 1224
A flash mob convergence of hundreds of zombie-dressed participants trudging through the streets of New York City.
According to wikipedia.org, a Zombie Walk is: “A zombie walk (also known as a zombie mob, zombie march or zombie lurch) is an organized public gathering of two or more people who dress up in zombie costumes. Usually taking place in an urban centre, the participants make their way around the city streets and through shopping malls in a somewhat orderly fashion and often limping their way towards a local cemetery or other public space. Promoted primarily through word of mouth and online message boards, zombie walks are an underground activity. During the event participants are encouraged to remain in character as zombies and to communicate only in a manner consistent with zombie behavior. This may include grunting, groaning and slurred, moaning calls for ‘brains’. It should be noted that zombie behavior is a hot topic of debate. Purists who draw their definitions from the original Living Dead films will claim that a zombie would never have the ability to call for ‘brains’ and furthermore that a zombie needs only living (or freshly killed) flesh for its sustenance and not the brain in particular.”
