dantes-inferno-horror-game-for-xbox-ps3-pc-caps-hd-trailer-hd-gameplay-and-raw-reviewWritten by Joseph Peterson / When Dante’s Inferno was announced, many viewed it as a ripoff of our beloved PlayStation franchise, God of War. Now that the game has finally been released, it is time to see if it is worthy of a purchase with the God of War III release right around the corner. The game is being published by Electronic Arts and developed by Visceral Games. As the player, you take on the role of Dante, a protagonist who has lost everything. He begins his descent into Hell armed with Death’s scythe and a cross. The game has many connections to “Inferno,” written by poet Dante Alighieri, and is a part of “The Divine Comedy.”

The game begins with this quote, and it caught my attention from the get-go.

In the year 1191, European knights of the Third Crusade captured the city of Acre, about 30 miles from Jerusalem.

Under orders from King Richard, 3000 civilian prisoners were detained. They were held as ransom for a holy relic once taken by Saladin, the Kurdish protector of the Holy Land.

As the hot summer wore on, Saladin dug in and refused to negotiate. Richard grew frustrated, unsure of an attack on Jerusalem.

And the fate of the innocent prisoners was left undecided…

What do the terms Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Anger, Heresy, Violence, Fraud, and Treachery mean to you? In Dante’s Inferno, they represent the nine circles of hell that the player must traverse throughout the game. Each circle has its own look and feel to it. Along the way, you will encounter various monsters in their respective circles. Depending on the circle, both the environment and the monsters will change. For example, in Lust, there are many sexual elements present, including constant moaning and women which attack Dante with horrific sexual appendages. Within the Gluttony circle, on the other hand Dante will encounter extremely obese creatures with mouths for hands. These creatures not only attempt to eat Dante, but vomit and defecate on him as well. Read more …

Dead Space’s Poster, Pictures, Exclusive Dead Space Previews & Features and Dead Space Preview Trailer (Xbox 360, PS3)

September 17, 2008 / 10430

EA’s upcoming sci-fi Dead Space drops you into the not-so-lucky space suit of Isaac Clarke, a member of a deep space rescue team. Unfortunately for Clarke, his own rescue team finds itself in need of rescue quicker than Corporal Dwayne Hicks of Aliens can say, “Game over, man!” The game is being developed internally at EA and has been making us jump since we got our first look some months ago. We finally got our hands on a work-in-progress version of the game for the 360 to see how the various demos we’ve seen all fit together.

Our version of the game let us start a brand new game, which eased us into the story. If you’re a fan of science fiction movies and games, Dead Space’s narrative should feel familiar. Like at the start of a lot of hair-raising sci-fi tales, the game has a team of folks going to investigate a ship (in this case, the USS Ishimura) with which contact has been lost. And just like in those sci-fi nail-biters you may be familiar with, things end up going horribly wrong for said team. In fact, your ship will meet an unsightly end early on in the game. And in Dead Space, Isaac’s special lady is onboard the derelict ship…which makes things personal.

Your core goal is to find your lady friend and get the heck out of there with your surviving teammates. Of course, because you just know things aren’t going to be easy, there’s also a mystery to uncover, namely what happened to the Ishimura’s crew of 1,000 people. To add some urgency to the proceedings, the Ishimura has seen better days and requires you to do some repair work to get around. This is, of course, all complicated by the fact that there’s all manner of unpleasant creatures lurking between you and just about everywhere you need to go.

August 7, 2008 / 2535

, known in Japan as Siren: New Translation, is a stealth-based survival horror video game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Japan Studio for 3. It was initially released in Japan in BD-ROM format on July 13, 2008, followed by a worldwide release on Network on July 24, 2008. A BD-ROM version will be released in Europe in the Autumn. The game is a reimagining of the first installment in the series, Siren, with many alterations to structure and content.

The story begins on August 3, 2007 and focuses on an American television crew that arrives in Japan to investigate and document the legend of Hanuda, a “vanished village” where human sacrifices are said to have taken place thirty years prior. New gameplay features include an automated split-screen sightjacking mode that allows the player to see through the eyes of others while continuing to play normally. Over 50 weapons are available throughout, each with its own unique finishing moves.

The game is divided into a series of twelve chronological episodes grouped into four equal chapters available from Store, containing parallel and intersecting scenarios for multiple playable characters (seven characters in total). All twelve episodes are also available to download at a lower price. A playable demo containing a portion of the second episode is also available to download. Read more …
