User Review
I had the pleasure of screening this film at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin with Uwe Boll in the audience to introduce and answer questions about the movie. This movie would have been good even without the explanations, but it sure didn’t hurt. All in all similar in spirit to the classic unkillable killer movies like Halloween and the later Friday the 13th movies, but Boll takes it in another direction. He has a point to all the gory depictions, but it gets a little lost along the way. All in all a great film if you’re a fan of serious gore. Basically if sick and twisted is your bag, you won’t be disappointed, but if you really want to be scared this movie just doesn’t deliver.
Scare 2 Die (Japanese) 2008, Poster, Plot Horror
September 11, 2008 / 3366
The prolific Pang Brothers have been behind a string of horror hits dating back to 2002’s critically-acclaimed The Eye - and there seems to be no stopping them. Six years later, people have yet to tire of Pang-produced horror, which is where Scare 2 Die comes in. Directed by the Pangs’ longtime assistant director Cub Chien, Scare 2 Die is an omnibus horror movie featuring three gory tales of supernatural discontent. Chien varies his approach in this commercial chiller, going for cultural frights, a gore-filled cautionary tale, and a spectacularly intense twenty-minute chase involving disembowelment, the living dead, and rising star Elanne Kwong (Invisible Target) swinging an axe. Joining Kwong in this trio of horror tales is the ubiquitous Sam Lee, as well as Pang Brothers veteran Lawrence Chou (The Eye), and Tommy Yuen of boy band E-kids.
Down-on-his-luck gambler Kan Au (Sam Lee) owes a big sum of money, and needs to go on a winning streak soon or the loan sharks will take the interest from his hide. Luckily, Kan finds a blessed coin that allows him to draws the unbeatable “13 Unique Wonders” hand of mahjong on 13 consecutive nights, which should be enough for him to pay his debts. The problem: every time he uses the coin to win, somebody dies a gruesome, gory death. Meanwhile, fetching Luk Wing (Elanne Kwong) wakes up one morning to discover her family being eaten! Everyone around her has become a zombie, and Wing has to pick up an axe and fight back, or her heart will be come lunch for the living dead. Finally, slacker Chan (Tommy Yuen) signs up for “Scare 2 Die” a reality game show with a prize purse of $130,000. Read more …

With the time passing, these fives tenants will begin to know each other a little more. Yong-hyun is developing a very close relationship with Sun-young the abused wife and he will also befriend the writer Mr. Lee. But it seems that all these characters hide a very dark past. Yong-hyun is suspect in the disappearance of his ex-wife, Sun-young lost her child a couple of year ago and Mr. Lee was apparently a very close friend to the guy who died in the apartment no so long ago. Were these fires really accidents and is there any connection between all these mysterious and strange events
Review: At first glance it looked like a horror movie, well I was expecting to see some ghost and dark chilling fantasy elements, but Sorum is not exactly your typical horror ghost story movie.
In fact, there’s no ghost at all and there’s also almost no fright factor either, so calling Sorum a horror movie would not be exactly right. It is more of a dark drama driven by a very claustrophobic and tense atmosphere than anything else. Unlike the current wave of Asian horror movies, Sorum doesn’t have any fantasy or ghost element but instead try to hook the spectator by using a very impressive cinematography. In addition the movie uses a lot of environmental sound effects to make the spectator feel like they are really in the movie. Read more …

CB Cebulski
While C.B. Cebulski was once better known as a Marvel editor than a comics writer, that’s not the case anymore. Cebulski’s recent writing experience has not only earned him some loyal fans, but Newsarama has confirmed the writer’s just gotten an exclusive contract from Marvel and some writing work in television (this interview was conducted just prior to the WGA announcing that it was going on strike).
After leaving his editorial job at Marvel in early 2006 to concentrate more on his writing, he returned to Marvel later that same year as an “editor-who-also-writes.” Between the writing projects he’s done for Marvel like his Fairy Tales series and The Loners miniseries, he’s also written a couple video games and released a few creator-owned titles like Drain, Compass, and Wonderlost.
And recently, as Cebulski announced in San Diego, he’s also been traversing the world, searching for new comic book talent through his cleverly titled ChesterQuest (the “C” in C.B. stands for Chester). Publicized both here on Newsarama and through Cebulski’s ChesterQuest blog, the search promises to land 12 brand new artists a pencilling job at Marvel after it finishes up in January. Read more …
