Popular Culture and Ghost Culture
October 6, 2008 / 2388
Ghosts are prominent in the popular cultures of various nations. The ghost story is ubiquitous across all cultures from oral folktales to works of literature.
Perhaps the most recognizable ghost in English literature is the shade of Hamlet’s father in the play The Tragical History of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. In Hamlet, it is the ghost that encourages the title character to investigate his “murder most foul” and seek revenge upon King Claudius, the suspected murderer of Hamlet’s father. Read more …

September 24, 2008 / 8268
The cast includes: Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn.
Directed by: Jerry Zucker. Written by: Bruce Joel Rubin. Music by: Maurice Jarre.
Synopsis: A murdered man’s spirit hangs around the living to solve his own murder, protect the love of his life, and get personal justice against the evildoers.
GHOST is a love story, a supernatural tale and a murder mystery thriller, with comedic moments mixed in, all which are uniquely blended together to make a superbly entertaining movie.
The script was well thought out, well-paced, and well written. The story opens with the young couple, (Demi & Patrick), and their good friend,(Tony), working on renovating an old floor of a building into their dream apartment, that has plenty of room for pottery/clay sculptor, Demi, to create her art. It is established that Patrick & Tony are good friends who work together at the same financial business company in New York City. Tragedy befalls the happy couple when Patrick is murdered during a night robbery by a thug, Willie, who was supposedly after money.
Patrick’s spirit hangs around their dream apartment at first, wishing to comfort his grieving love, but can’t do so. When his murderer comes back into the apartment, but leaves when scratched by the cat, Patrick follows Willie back to Willie’s place on the rundown side of town. Patrick decides to seek the help of spiritualist, Oda May Brown, (Whoopi), who was a charlatan, until she gets involved with Patrick, which unblocks her sixth sense, so she can truly help both the living and the dead, instead of pretending to have “the gift.” Read more …
Can Entities Hurt?
August 15, 2008 / 1053
Anthony North: Psychic entities can come in many forms, varying from incubi, to ghosts, to aliens, and even the ‘hallucinations’ conjured up by a magical adept.
Yet the most virulent tend to appear during poltergeist infestations. Occasionally such entities go further than simply being seen. There are attested cases of such entities actually hurting people, even leaving marks on the body. Does this suggest the entities are real, or can other elements explain the phenomenon? To me, such entities are basically hallucinations.:
The mind constantly interprets the data received from the senses, but should that data be interrupted, such as through tiredness, altered states, natural illusion, etc, a strange phenomenon occurs. Read more …

Central New York Ghost Hunters capture a terrifying scene from the past
By Stephen Wagner, About.com
IN JANUARY, 2007, the Central New York Ghost Hunters (CNYGH), based in Syracuse, New York, were invited to investigate an old hotel in upstate New York. (The owners of the hotel have asked to keep its location confidential.) The investigation proved to be one of the most intensely active the group has ever encountered, and produced an EVP – an electronic voice phenomena recording – that is remarkable not only for its length, but also for its terrifying content.
It may well be the most intense, frightening EVP ever recorded.
THE INVESTIGATION
On that weekend in January, CNYGH founder Stacey Jones and several members of the group went to the hotel on an overnight stay for what they thought would be a routine investigation. They had no idea what they were in for…
