This Is The Unofficial Theory Of Sci-Fi Connectivity
October 31, 2009 / 2608
If you’ve ever suspected that all of your favorite shows, books and comics all took place in the same universe, you’re probably right. And we’ve got a chart to prove it. Click through for awesome.
We’ve concentrated on three types of crossovers between series: Direct Crossover, where characters from one series or another have actually met in a story; Easter Egg, where elements of one series have appeared in another (often as geeky in-jokes), and Brand Crossover, where market forces have brought two disparate things together for no good reason (See Transformers/Star Wars). I’m sure that there are some that we’ve forgotten, but that’s what the comments are for. For now, just enjoy the fact that Aliens theoretically can be said to exist in the same world as Battlestar Galactica… and get your fan-fiction typewriters revving. Read more …
The Top Ten Horror Flicks for Chicks
October 31, 2009 / 2745
Once upon a time, horror-movie fandom was a Boys’ Club: No cootie-ridden girls allowed. But we’ve come a long way, baby, as today, every dark-and-scary night is ladies’ night with women making up a solid half of the audience for fright flicks. Remember the thrill of seeing Halloween’s Laurie Strode (the inimitable Jamie Lee Curtis) stand up to the bogeyman with a knitting needle? Well, there’s more where that came from.
The Flick: The Descent (2005)
The Chicks: Sarah (Shauna Macdonald) and Juno (Natalie Jackson Mendoza)
The Reason Why Chicks Love It: Take a pack of estrogen-fueled thrill-seekers, drop them in an unmapped cave somewhere in the Appalachian Mountains, unleash something super-nasty on them, and, rest assured, they won’t run and scream: They’ll bring it on. Even in this dude-free zone, Sarah has the final-girl look; and who doesn’t love to hate Juno, the alpha bitch who gets them into this mess? The Descent knows that women’s friendships are complicated. Read more …
UFO on the Moon in Apollo Days-Debunked? Review
August 16, 2009 / 7600
In UFO on the moon in Apollo Days? You decide I posted a photograph that is alleged to be an official NASA photograph showing a UFO observing activities of Apollo 14 in 1971.
I had searched the NASA GRIN (Great Images in NASA) database for both numbers assigned to the photo, as well as performing a web search. I was unable to find any photo online with those numbers, although they are apparently NASA sequence numbers.
Of course, not all NASA photos may be online. So I dug a little deeper.
Shown above is an authentic NASA Apollo 14 image (#AS14-66-9306). Look at the lower right–see the bursts of color? Another UFO photo?
Nope.
It shows Antares on the Frau Mauro Highlands on Feb. 5, 1971. And here’s the explanation NASA provided:
A front view of the Apollo 14 Lunar Module “Antares”, which reflects a circular flare caused by the brilliant sun. The unusual ball of light was said by the astronauts to have a jewel-like appearance. At extreme left, the lower slope of Cone Crater can be seen.
For good measure, I found another Apollo 14 photo with lights nearby. This is #AS14-67-9367. cropped to accent the lights in the right corner. Read more …
UFO Monitors Space Shuttle Maneuvers At Space Station? You Decide!
February 16, 2009 / 760
Space Shuttle Endeavour undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) this morning after a highly successful mission. They’ll land Sunday at Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
For decades, UFO enthusiasts have debated the presence of UFOs during space missions, and the STS-126 flight is no exception. Read more …
