CNN Reporting On UFOs? Oh Yeah!
January 12, 2010 / 15816
They actually investigated, then wrote and posted online an article about town folk seeing UFOs in the night sky. My first reaction was to wonder why.
Why report on UFOs? Why now, or ever?
And why CNN? What was their motivation?
Last I heard, UFOs were still a subject of ridicule… relegated to science fiction and the lunatic fringe in the mainstream opinion. Relatively few people believe these reports or take them seriously. At least publicly, and then maybe not without some embarrassment, and possibly self-defense.
Even those who accept the probability of alien life often receive these stories tentatively or skeptically. Although various polls in the last 10 years reveal that well over half the world’s population believes alien life is possible, if not actual (me among them). Read more …

It’s rare that I dislike a novel that I read. For starters, I don’t read many (especially these days); I’m lucky to get through 6 books a year (which includes non-fiction stuff). So I don’t just read any old thing, I usually need to be sold on it. And since Alice Sebold’s “The Lovely Bones” was praised by everyone, I figured I would enjoy it when I picked it up in 2004. But alas, I was mostly bored by it. I liked the concept, and it did strike a nerve here and there, but it was ultimately overlong, somewhat unfocused (for a while the book was more about her sister’s burgeoning relationship than anything else, like someone stuck a “Sweet Valley High” book in the middle of my ghost novel), and ultimately anticlimactic; the final 50 pages or so reminded me of Bartledanian literature. But that Peter Jackson fella is a pretty gifted filmmaker, so I was pretty optimistic that The Lovely Bones would be a success on film. Read more …

Tobey Maguire on the Spider-Man 4 Production Delay - Upcoming Movies
January 9, 2010 / 47354
Tobey Maguire on the Spider-Man 4 Production Delay - Upcoming Movies / In a live webcam chat on Thursday at the Los Angeles Times’ The Envelope, Tobey Maguire addressed reports that production has been postponed on Spider-Man 4 so that Alvin Sargent can do more work on the script.
“Like anything, it’s a process,” Maguire said. “We’re just in the midst of the process. We have a lot of great stuff in terms of story and script. We’re just trying to dial it in and get it ready as quickly as possible. Of course, these movies are a very big undertaking and take a lot more time than a drama or something more straightforward.”
The studio hasn’t given up the scheduled May 5, 2011 release date just yet, but whatever happens, Maguire is excited about the character’s future.
“Not only do I have specific ideas, but the ideas are evolving on the page,” he said. “It’s all happening right now. It’s all sort of coming together. It’s very exciting to me. I think the evolution of the character is really exciting, to be rooted in the history of what we’ve done already and to have a continuity, yet have a progression or evolution.”

Scooper ‘Narrows101′ pointed us to the People’s Choice Awards 2010 website where you can find a video of Hugh Jackman, who won “Favorite Action Star,” talking briefly about Wolverine 2.
In the video titled ‘Hugh Jackman Backstage,’ Jackman first says that he’s going to shoot the Shawn Levy-directed Real Steel this summer, followed by this: “Wolverine’s going to be back. He’s going to Japan. We shoot that probably in a year, year-and-a-half, something like that.”
Considering the 2011 shoot, we guess that they’ll be eyeing a summer 2012 release.
