How to EVP: A Need for Protocol … Ghost Researchers, Let’s Find a Way to Prove EVP

January 7, 2009 / 1070

AN OPEN LETTER to ghost researchers from Stacey Jones, founder of Central New York Ghost Hunters:

I have been doing some reading on the paranormal, specifically the belief in the paranormal. The three books I am reading are college text books, called How to Think About Weird Things, Paranormal Beliefs: A Sociological Introduction and Hauntings and Poltergeists: Multidisciplinary Perspectives.

1. How to Think About Weird Things is interesting and, as I am reading into chapter 4, doesn’t seem to dismiss the paranormal… yet.

2. Paranormal Beliefs: A Sociological Introduction is making me angry. I read the first page and wanted to find the author and make him lap the water from my loo. I have a B.A. Degree in Sociology, and minors in Education, History, Social Justice and Physics. Read more …

How to 70 Horror, Blood and Gore Photoshop Effects and Brushes

January 6, 2009 / 4844

When I was a kid, I was a compulsive painter of punched eyes, missing teeth and bloody scars on almost every magazine or newspaper photo I found.

Time passed by and I didn’t become a special effects makeup artist like Tom Savini or Rick Baker, but I still enjoy a nice with some decent gore and splatter effects.

Lately I’ve been noticing that many Photoshop artists are mastering the horror makeup techniques and believed that it was time to gather a nice (er, sort of…) list of Photoshop tutorials filled with gore, splatter and blood.

Some previews have been blocked just because the final effect was too explicit. Have some fun with your photos, but don’t scare your kid brother too much, please. Read more …

Detroit Metal City Movie (2008)- Achingly hilarious and great loud music! - Synopsis, Behind The Scenes, Trailer, Raw Review!

January 6, 2009 / 7764

SYNOPSIS

Soichi Negishi moved to Tokyo to chase his dream of becoming a musician playing stylish, Swedish-style pop. Instead, he finds himself leading the death metal band Detroit Metal City, or DMC, as the costumed and grotesquely made-up “demon emperor” Johannes Krauser II. Although he hates the role and the things he has to do as a member of the band, he has a definite talent for it. Adapted from the hit Japanese comic book by Kiminori Wakasugi, the movie follows Negishi’s antics as he tries to reconcile the two very different sides of his life and find out what it really means to achieve his dream.

So, doing the rounds of all the films that I’m tracking I stumble across a freshly revamped website for upcoming Japanese comedy Detroit Metal City. And what do I find there?  A second teaser for the film which tells the tale of a geeky young man who ends up fronting a costumed and heavily made up glam metal band a la KISS.  Not sure if we’d just missed this one earlier or if it is a new promo spot but you’ll now find it in the Twitch Player along with the first teaser and a higher resolution version of the full trailer.  Watch for the appearance of KISS front man Gene Simmons.  This one is starting to have some advance screenings in Japan and the word is very good … all the trailers in the Twitch Player below the break.
