Poltergeist (2011) Release On Hold Upcoming Horror Movie

October 26, 2009 / 12291

A remake of the 80’s horror movie, now they are back for another haunting!

poltergeist-remake-2011-posterOK…so just a couple days ago we said that MGM was still planning to shoot Poltergeist next year, and no, the title is not a coincidence: This is absolutely a remake of the classic PG horror flick. We wondered, though, what the release date would be. Last we’d heard, it was November 2010.

Now Bloody Disgusting has an update straight from the studio, and not surprisingly, MGM is putting off Poltergeist until sometime in 2011. The reason given: Because of the early 2010 start, “the film just couldn’t have been done in time for the November release.” Only that’s garbage.

See, movies don’t take as long in post-production these days, which is why Steven Spielberg - who produced the original Poltergeist - could start shooting War of the Worlds in November and have in theaters less than eight months later. Closer to home, Rob Zombie wasn’t even hired for II until January of this year and the film came out before Labor Day.

Granted, you’d probably like to aim higher than II, but I don’t accept that a movie like Poltergeist, which has been in development for well over a year and has had the same director (Vadim Perelman) attached the entire time, would need some five months of post-production. Tarantino had a two-and-a-half-hour Inglourious Basterds shot and edited between October and May. So something else must be up with Poltergeist, right?

The fact that there’s no new release date but a big TBD stamp on this remake does not give me much hope. Of course, MGM is beyond broke, and all the studio can really do right now is produce The Hobbit. Maybe the planned distribution of Poltergeist was too expensive given the Lion’s economic shortfall. But if it were just that, you’d think they’d delay the production, too.

Still not a positive sign, though.

Nightmare On Elm Street Remake: Wes Craven Doesn’t Want To Make It

October 18, 2009 / 3804

So, a remake is planned… but don’t expect original Nightmare director to have anything to do with it. Craven says he’s not interested in remaking the horror classic.

nightmare-on-elm-street commented on the remake, saying, “That’d be a tough one to re-see… If you move on from the films you’ve made – which I have tried always to move on – then it’s like, ‘That’s in the past. It’s had his life.’ If they make a better film, maybe it will eclipse the original. I don’t know. If they don’t, then the original will look even better.”

Craven also said, “I guess now they’re (studio bosses) moving towards remakes rather than , because, at some point, you can’t justify another sequel – but you can remake the original, because the audiences have gone through two or three generations.”

La Horde (2009) Loud & Proud French Horror - Poster, Synopsis, HQ Photos, Trailer and Raw Review

October 18, 2009 / 6341

la-horde-2009-posterOn the outskirts of Paris, four corrupt cops go on a rampage to avenge the murder of one of their own by a group of ruthless gangsters, holed up in a condemned building. Once there, the officers’ personal vendetta turns into a nightmare. Trapped, they are about to be executed when the unimaginable occurs: hordes of bloodthirsty, cannibalistic creatures invade the building, savagely attacking everyone. Running to the roof, the survivors discover that their entire world is in chaos. The streets are filled with massive heaps of countless cadavers and the entire city is in flames. Alone and wounded, despite their mutual hatred, the gangsters and cops have no choice but join forces if they want to survive. They’ll have to make it down thirteen floors full of voracious creatures but the greatest threat lies elsewhere…

The film pits a group of cops and crooks who were about to shoot each other, but must suddenly team up to survive against a sudden zombie horde, all within the confines of a high-rise building. And you thought your job sucked. There’s no explanation as to why there’s a zombie infestation, but it could be one of those zombie post-apocalypse type of deal where the ending has the survivors (if there are survivors) stepping outside to witness the carnage. Or not.

Written and directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, and starring Eriq Ebouaney, Jean-Pierre Martins, Aurélien Recoing, Jo Prestia, Claude Perron, Alain Figlarz, Yves Pignot, Laurent Demianoff, Doudou Masta, Antoine Oppenheim, and Sébastien Peres. Read more …

A group of people find themselves trapped in the backwoods of West Virginia, fighting for their lives against a group of vicious and horribly disfigured inbred cannibals.

- Alternative Movie Poster For by fauxster

Artist’s Comments: Fauxster/teaser poster for the upcoming sixth installment in the “Saw” franchise, due in theaters Oct 23, 2009. Not the best of my work (I’m really not satisfied with how the gravestone came out), but I like the concept of an empty grave. I also kept the roman numeral sequel number in the same vein as “Saw V”.
