How To Explain Entities

Anthony North: An entity is something that has separate existence, but not necessarily in a material sense. As such, it can be a concept. But in regard to the paranormal, the term is traditionally used to identify a ghost, demon, etc. Entities, of various forms, have appeared throughout human history. I’m not interested, here, in how they appear, but why? Do they have a specific purpose, or are they simply silly distractions of the fantasy-prone? Entities are not cast in stone.: Rather, they change over time. Indeed, I’ve used the term ‘psychic waves’ to explain this mode of change over the centuries. And several theorists are fundamental to putting together the pieces of a possible reason why. Take mythologist Joseph Campbell. He identified universal similarities in myths. I’ve used the term ‘universal psychology’ to identify this form of identical thinking that lies behind the phenomenon. Carl Jung also offered the collective unconscious, where ‘archetypes’ appear in myth and dream, also suggesting universality. This suggests a standard pattern in our mind-set.: So could this suggest a standard pattern to entities, which are seen through the mind, are they not? Other researchers, such as Jacques Vallee, offer a possible reason for all this. They speak of a ‘psychic menagerie’ lying below our conscious thought, acting as if a ‘control mechanism’ upon our culture, aspirations, etc. So is it possible that such a mechanism exists? Ringing Rocks - Mysterious Pennsylvania

In my mind, I think we should quit turning to institutions to tell us truth and instead turn to each other. The government keeps documents and knowledge close to themselves and they will not reveal what they know. The Vatican is no different. Secrets are highly profitable and powerful. Why would they let go of that power? In both cases they have horded evidence “for the greater good” which is to keep the masses ignorant so they keep their seats. The less people know, the longer those institutions will survive. And continually turning to them for the answers gives them the power we would like to take for ourselves. I don’t even know if it is possible to having an “open” institution that has any power.

Bracing For a Solar Superstorm

As night was falling across the Americas on Sunday, August 28, 1859, the phantom shapes of the auroras could already be seen overhead. From Maine to the tip of Florida, vivid curtains of light took the skies.

Startled Cubans saw the auroras directly overhead; ships’ logs near the equator described crimson lights reaching halfway to the zenith. Many people thought their cities had caught fire. Scientific instruments around the world, patiently recording minute changes in Earth’s magnetism, suddenly shot off scale, and spurious electric currents surged into the world’s telegraph systems. In Baltimore telegraph operators labored from 8 p.m. until 10 a.m. the next day to transmit a mere 400-word press report.

Just before noon the following Thursday, September 1, English astronomer Richard C. Carrington was sketching a curious group of sunspots—curious on account of the dark areas’ enormous size. At 11:18 a.m. he witnessed an intense white light flash from two locations within the sunspot group.

He called out in vain to anyone in the observatory to come see the brief five-minute spectacle, but solitary astronomers seldom have an audience to share their excitement. Seventeen hours later in the Americas a second wave of auroras turned night to day as far south as Panama.

People could read the newspaper by their crimson and green light. Gold miners in the Rocky Mountains woke up and ate breakfast at 1 a.m., thinking the sun had risen on a cloudy day. Telegraph systems became unusable across Europe and North America.

The news media of the day looked for researchers able to explain the phenomena, but at the time scientists scarcely understood auroral displays at all. Were they meteoritic matter from space, reflected light from polar icebergs or a high-altitude version of lightning? It was the Great Aurora of 1859 itself that ushered in a new paradigm.

The October 15 issue of Scientific American noted that ‘‘a connection between the northern lights and forces of electricity and magnetism is now fully established.

World’s oldest joke traced back to 1900 BC

The world’s oldest recorded joke has been traced back to 1900 BC and suggests that toilet humor was as popular with the ancients as it is today. It is a saying of the Sumerians, who lived in what is now southern Iraq and goes: “Something which has never occurred since time immemorial; a young woman did not fart in her husband’s lap.” It heads the world’s oldest top 10 joke list published by the University of Wolverhampton on Thursday. A 1600 BC gag about a pharaoh, said to be King Snofru, comes second — “How do you entertain a bored pharaoh? You sail a boatload of young women dressed only in fishing nets down the Nile and urge the pharaoh to go catch a fish.” The oldest British Joke dates back to the 10th Century and reveals the bawdy face of the Anglo-Saxons — “What hangs at a man’s thigh and wants to poke the hole that it’s often poked before? Answer: A key.”

The Gwiber of Penmachno

Mike Heffernan: The word “gwiber” in Welsh means viper or adder but many centuries ago the word actually meant “flying snake”. This is the story of how Wibernant (meaning “valley of the gwiber) which is near Penmachno got its name. The gwiber that resided in this particular valley was a very dangerous creature and was unique amongst its kind. It was the only one in Wales that could live on land and under the water. It preyed on the fish in the river, local livestock and on anyone foolish enough to get in its way !!! In despair, the local residents decided to offer a large reward to anyone who could kill the beast and a young man named Owen Ap Gruffydd (who lived in the nearby mountains) took up the challenge.

Before heading off to do battle with the monster, however. Owen decided to consult a local wise name by the name of Rhys Ddewin to find out his chances of success.

Apocalypse is Coming? The Year 2012, as End Time Or New Time?

Stephane Wuttunee: I’m not an alarmist. Though it is obvious that the world is coming to a head in terms of what it can handle socially, environmentally, and spiritually, I always focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. Trouble is, the tunnel seems to be lengthening these days, especially with the amount of attention and fervor people are giving to December 21st 2012 and its interpretation. Never mind that the Mayans themselves never prophesied an end to the world on December 21st, or that apocalyptic videos are everywhere on the Internet. Mostly it’s people who have just learned about it that are making all the noise. People who have been studying it for a while are sitting back and watching the show.

I think most of us can agree that the last 25,000 years upon the Earth has been an extremely dark era. Yes, we have survived and thrived despite the trials afflicted upon us (by either Mother Nature or ourselves), but for the most part it has been by the skin of our behinds. One need only look at how frequently the entire world has been brought to nearly DEFCON 5 states of alert, where all it would has taken to reduce us to rubble is the simple twisting of a key and the pushing of a little red button. Atlantis - Theory and Fantasy

Did Atlantis exist, or was it merely a fantasy conjured up by Plato, and kept alive through wishful thinking over the centuries? If it did exist, where can we find it’s remains?
We can ask other questions. For instance, just what WAS Atlantis? How did it disappear? In this essay I will be examining just a few such theories, and seeing where realistic ideas end and fantasy begins.

PILLARS OF HERCULES

One popular assertion from Plato is that Atlantis was ‘beyond the Pillars of Hercules’. These are almost unanimously thought to be the outcrops either side of the Strait of Gibraltar.
The mythology of the Straits of Glbraltar is neat and explanatory. Geographically speaking, they represent a narrow stretch of water separating the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. And mystically, they separate the known world from the unknown.
To the north and south of the Straits are two large promontories - the Rock of Gibraltar in Europe and the Abyla on the African coast. These are the pillars separating the narrow strait. But according to legend the two promontories were much closer. Indeed, they were a closed gate. Until, that is, the mighty Hercules stood by the rocks and pushed them apart, thus allowing the waters to flood in. Read more …
