SYNOPSIS (Warning! This synopsis contains spoilers)
My Name is Bruce is the heroic struggle of a small mining town (Gold Lick, Oregon) to rid itself of a vengeful monster. Guan-di (Jamie Peck), the Chinese god of war and protector of the dead, has been unleashed by cemetery desecrating teenagers to protect the graves of Chinese miners lost in a deadly cave-in of yesteryear.
The deadly demons mission is to eradicate all those who transgressed against the tomb (relatives included), which is virtually the entire population of Gold Lick. The inbred community has to find a solution so Jeff (Taylor Sharpe), the sole survivor of a deadly Guan-Di encounter, takes it upon himself to kidnap his idol, Bruce Campbell (Bruce Campbell), star of countless B-movie horror films, and recruit him to be their local savior.
Mortified at first, Bruce eventually goes along with Jeffs prank, convinced that its all an elaborate birthday present from his agent (Ted Raimi), and begins to enjoy the spoils of being a movie hero, including free liquor and Jeffs attractive mother, Kelly (Grace Thorsen).
But Jeffs scheme goes horribly wrong when his hero, known more for fighting directors than mythical warriors, haphazardly leads the town in battle against Guan-Di. Confronted by a monster thats not a guy in a rubber suit, and with the blood of innocents on his hands, Bruce abandons the harsh reality of Gold Lick for the sanctity of his former, artificial life.
In his ramshackle desert trailer, Bruce resumes the daily grind of genre sequels, poor housekeeping and cheap whiskey, but a gut-wrenching call from his biggest fan, Jeff - now forced to take on Guan-Di alone - prompts the actor to re-evaluate his destiny.
Against his better judgment (and the angry citizens of Gold Lick), Bruce returns to defeat Guan-Di, save Jeff, and snag his hot mother. In the climactic, mano-a-monster, Bruce tries to rise above the miserable, off-screen schmuck that he is and become a heroin real life.
Be afraid, Gold Lick be very afraid.

BD REVIEW (By: MrDisgusting)
Since Sam Raimi refuses to put Bruce Campbell back in the shoes of Ashley J. Williams, Campbell took matters into his own hands and directed a new indie horror-comedy entitled MY NAME IS BRUCE, which he also stars in… as himself.
From the get go MY NAME IS BRUCE was intriguing. In the film, Campbell, playing himself, is kidnapped off the set of a B horror movie and, despite his protestations that he’s just an actor, is forced to play the role of his heroic movie character in order to save a small town from an ancient demonic curse.
The idea it that fans will get to see Ash back on the big screen… sort of. The film carries a barrage of references to Campbell’s career with jokes ranging from THE EVIL DEAD to MCHALE’S NAVY. Basically this movie was made solely for fans of Campbell as pretty much every comical moment is an ‘inside joke’. The only problem with MY NAME IS BRUCE is that even when Campbell “mans up” and decides to become a hero, he never quite puts on Ash’s hat, which is the climax I think we were all expecting. Instead, he continues to be a frail, smartass, washed up jerk that has zero respect for his fans, which sadly is the Campbell I see at conventions.
From a critics standpoint the movie is terrible. It has a poorly developed screenplay, half-assed directing and can’t decide what type of world this takes place in. One minute we’re supposed to believe this IS Campbell’s life and the next it becomes a cartoon. With that said, MY NAME IS BRUCE is still incredibly entertaining….
Again, this film was made for Campbell fans and nobody else. With all the quips, references and smart-alecky charm that Campbell brings to the table, there’s not a single second that’s hard not to love. While technically flawed, the heart is there and it’s in the right place.
MY NAME IS BRUCE is a very small film with the correct focus, making it an immediate gem. While most horror movies are crafted to be for everybody, Mark Verheiden writes a screenplay that will be hated by anyone who did not grow up on THE EVIL DEAD films. What this means is that Campbell had directed a very special film that was made just for you. Hold it close and cherish it.
Score: 7 / 10

Fun for the Fans
I too obtained a coveted pair of tickets to MNIB….
The plot is basically what it says—a town of goobers kidnaps Bruce Campbell & pins their hopes of defeating the monster thats killing off the town members using all his B-Movie beast killing knowledge etc….Bruce thinks it’s a big joke…till the Bean Curd hits the fan!! very slapstick, cornball, digs all over him self as an actor
uses his old lines in new and inventive ways “…and maybe later honey, if your lucky I’ll let you look at my BoomStick!” Anyone on the inside of these jokes will get it, love it and want more…. And those hard core haters who tear films to shreds will find plenty to hack on…But they wont get any fodder from me….just trust that if your a Bruce Campbell fan….your gonna buy it, and force your unwilling friends to watch it.
