UFO on the Moon in Apollo Days-Debunked? Review

August 16, 2009 / 7600

In on the in Days? You decide I posted a photograph that is alleged to be an official photograph showing a observing activities of 14 in 1971.

I had searched the GRIN (Great Images in ) database for both numbers assigned to the photo, as well as performing a web search. I was unable to find any photo online with those numbers, although they are apparently sequence numbers.

Of course, not all photos may be online. So I dug a little deeper.

Shown above is an authentic 14 image (#AS14-66-9306). Look at the lower right–see the bursts of color? Another photo?

Nope.

It shows Antares on the Frau Mauro Highlands on Feb. 5, 1971. And here’s the explanation provided:

A front view of the 14 Lunar Module “Antares”, which reflects a circular flare caused by the brilliant sun. The unusual ball of light was said by the astronauts to have a jewel-like appearance. At extreme left, the lower slope of Cone Crater can be seen.

For good measure, I found another 14 photo with lights nearby. This is #AS14-67-9367. cropped to accent the lights in the right corner.

encounter? Nope.  records state:

The 14 Lunar Module (LM) “Antares” is photographed against a brilliant sun glare during the first extravehicular activity (EVA-1)

Do these two pictures, both with “-shaped” lights that are explained, debunk the prior claim? I think so.

But, others disagree. At , a discussion thread yielded this:

According to Ken Johnston, former LRL manager of ’s photographic lunar archive in the early 1970’s, he gave a first-hand account of how he was specifically instructed by his managers toward the end of the Program to destroy unique records.

Here’s a link to Ken Johnston’s  biography and a blog for - The Secret History of by Richard C. Hoagland and . (Which I haven’t yet read but intend to.)

Obviously, there are people who believe that is deliberately hiding and/or destroying records of contacts with and . Others disagree, and that’s made for some passionate discussions.

However, I think that the two photos shown here pretty well debunk the first 14 photo I posted earlier today. But that’s just one opinion.

What do you think?
