Local Churches Planning Family-Friendly Halloween Events

Many churches are holding fall festivals and other alternatives to Halloween, which feature games and candy, but no scary costumes. Here is a list of events submitted to The Bee. All are on Friday unless otherwise noted:
FALL FUN FAIR — 5:30-7:30 p.m., Modesto Covenant Church, 913 Floyd Ave. Inflatable games, hayrides, carnival games and crafts, contests, etc. Free lightsticks to first 200 children. Free; small charge for hot dogs, chili, pumpkin pie, drinks. 527-4110.
HARVEST PARTY — 6:30-9 p.m., Calvary Chapel, Pelandale and American avenues, Modesto. Western theme for ages sixth grade and under; no scary or immodest costumes. Bounce houses, slides, games, candy. Free. 545-5530.
HARVEST FEST AND VIRTUAL MAZE — 7 p.m., Apostolic Jubilee Center, 821 Lassen Ave., Modesto. Food, games, band, more for children. Adult maze with actors and message. Free. 538-7581.
TRUNK OR TREAT — 6-8 p.m., Big Valley Grace Community Church, 4040 Tully Road, Modesto. For children through sixth grade, event features cars with trunks full of goodies and special treats. Also, a barbecue, music, inflatables, more. No evil or scary costumes. 577-1604.
HARVEST PARTY — 5:30-8:30 p.m., Dutch Hollow Farms, northwest corner of Claribel and Oakdale roads, Modesto. Sponsored by Modesto Christian Reformed Church. Games, activities, trunk-or-treat for children. Free. 523-1906.
HARVEST FESTIVAL — 6:30-8 p.m., Calvary Baptist Church, 1732 Miller Ave., Modesto. Carnival-type games with prizes, candy; costume contest for ages 5 and younger and 6-12; thrill factory put on by youth group. Free. 524-0922.
TRUNK OR TREAT — 6-8:30 p.m., Trinity United Presbyterian Church, 1600 Carver Road, Modesto. Children dressed in non-threatening costumes parade from car trunk to car trunk. Free. 529-3228.
REFORMATION CELEBRATION — 5:30-8:30 p.m., Zion United Reformed Church, 1220 Canal Blvd., Ripon. Soup and pie supper, games and activities for children related to Martin Luther and Reformation with candy prizes. 599-9399.
HARVEST CELEBRATION — 6-9 p.m., Escalon Covenant Church, 1155 Escalon Ave. Games, inflatable jump house, trunk-or-treat, chili and cornbread dinner, raffle, bake sale, costume contests (no scary costumes). Entrance, free; small cost for food. 838-7600.
TRUNK OR TREAT — 6-8:30 p.m., Bethel Church, 2361 Scenic Drive, Modesto. Games, candy, bounce houses, free food, coffee for purchase. 521-5440.
OCTOBERBLEST — 5:30-8:30 p.m., Shelter Cove Community Church, 4242 Coffee Road, Modesto. Games, candy, “feats of strength” with Duane Degravel. $2 each. 567-3200.
FALL FESTIVAL — 6-8 p.m., Davis Park Church of Christ, 901 W. Rumble Road, Modesto. Activities, games, treats for children, free hot dogs, chili, etc. No scary costumes. Free. 522-7226.

HARVEST FESTIVAL — 3 p.m. Nov. 1, First Pentacostal Church of God, 1850 Hatch Road, Modesto. Games, petting zoo, custom motorcycles, food, etc. Free with canned food. 556-9723.
