* Time to talk with kids before they go out trick or treating on Halloween night.
Share Halloween with younger children.
Step1
An adult should always walk with younger children while they go through your neighborhoods trick-or-treating.
Step2
Send Kids in groups on Halloween night
Groups of children are always better than one or two going by themselves. This allows for better security and creates a lot more fun for the kids.
Step3
Stay outside of houses on Halloween
Talk to your kids before they leave your house. Tell them, under no circumstance, should they enter anyone’s house. If the resident will not give the children treats while they are outside then leave immediately. There are more treats next door.
Step4
Reflective Halloween costumes
Costumes need to be bright colors or have some sort of reflective material incorporated into them. This is for their safety. Flashlights are great but the tendency is to not have them on at all times. Reflective materials will always be on.
Step5
Halloween Masks
Masks are not the best part of the costume. If the mask can stay home that is best. If it needs to be worn ensure that the eye holes are properly fitted so everything can be seen.
Step6
Pedistrian safety for Halloween
Halloween night is very exciting for the kids but they need to remember that they are pedestrians and need to cross the streets correctly. Darting out into the middle of the street can lead to injury when the oncoming car can not stop in time. Always cross the street at the intersection.
Step7
Avoid dog bites on Halloween night
Provide your kids with instructions of how to stay safe when it come to animals. Dogs, in particular, can be very excitable when there is extra activity around their house. If they hear a dog barking and are not sure what to do, skip that house.
Step8
Inspect all candy
All candy needs to be inspected before eating. This can be made fun by having the kids sort through their stash and trade with other kids. The adult can be inspecting the candy during the exchange.
